Knockdown Daily 7/6/22: Patricky Pitbull Out of July 22nd Bellator Title Fight
Changes to Bellator 283 lead the MMA headlines for Wednesday
Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Knockdown Daily. Today is a busy issue that covers a variety of news stories. Let’s begin.
News
Patricky Pitbull Out of July 22nd Bellator Title Fight Against Sidney Outlaw
Patricky Pitbull won’t be able to defend his Bellator Lightweight Championship later this month.
The current champ has suffered an injury that forced him out of his July 22nd booking against Sidney Outlaw, per Tristen Critchfield of Sherdog.
The fight was set to headline Bellator 283 at the Emerald Queen Casino and Hotel in Tacoma, Washington, USA.
Pitbull was aiming to defend his belt for the first time. He took the vacant title late last year, scoring a second-round finish victory over Peter Queally.
Outlaw was given the now-canceled title fight opportunity after winning three of his previous four appearances in Bellator. This run of success from Outlaw includes a victory that he earned last year against veteran Myles Jury.
Outlaw will remain on the upcoming card in a fight against former RIZIN talent Tofiq Musayev, as first reported by Nolan King of MMA Junkie. The fight offers Musayev a big opportunity in his promotional debut, possibly jumping to the front of the lightweight ranks if he can pull off a win.
The recent news means that Outlaw won’t headline the card. A previously booked fight between welterweights Douglas Lima and Jason Jackson will now reportedly serve as the main event for the card and will be a five-round fight because of this change.
Smaller changes to the card were also announced by Bellator on Tuesday. Notably, Justin Montalvo will now face Archie Colgan instead of Vladimir Tokov, and a fight between Viktor Nemkov and Jose Augusto is out of the lineup.
Ok Rae Yoon vs. Christian Lee Rematch To Headline ONE 160 Lineup
Two title bouts along with the continuation of a Muay Thai grand prix are scheduled to take place at ONE Championship’s August 26th card, per an announcement made by the promotion Tuesday.
A rematch between ONE 170-pound champion Ok Rae Yoon and former titleholder Christian Lee is set for the main event of ONE 160, which is scheduled to take place in Singapore.
Ok pulled off an upset win against Lee last year, going five rounds against him to earn a unanimous decision victory. Lee disputed this scorecard result afterward, proclaiming that the fight should be overturned.
The result broke an extensive six-fight winning streak for Lee which dated back to 2018.
Ok will not only be attempting to defend his belt for the first time but will also be looking to keep his undefeated ONE run alive.
Ok only joined the promotion in 2021, when he beat Marat Gafurov via decision. He picked up another big win later that year, defeating former UFC champion Eddie Alvarez.
More details on the event can be read here.
Here’s the lineup:
Main Card
Bout 10: Ok Rae Yoon (16-3) vs. Christian Lee (15-4) (ONE MMA Lightweight Championship) (170 lbs)
Bout 9: Thanh Le (13-2) vs. Tang Kai (14-2) (ONE MMA Featherweight Championship) (155 lbs)

Two Fights Depart July 9th UFC ‘Fight Night’
A pair of fights have recently been removed from UFC’s next event. The bouts were originally set to take place on July 9th at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Lingo Out of Fight Against Onama
David Onama has lost his opponent for this weekend.
Austin Lingo has withdrawn from his fight against Onama, leaving the featherweight off the card for the time being. News of the fight was first reported by Nolan King of MMA Junkie.
UFC is reportedly searching for a short-notice opponent that can face Onama.
Lingo was looking to make his first appearance of the year. He had a successful 2021, defeating Jacob Kilburn and Luis Saldana on scorecards.
Onama is coming off his first UFC win, which was a first-round finish against Gabriel Benitez in February.
Pickett vs. Tiuliulin Off
A fight between Jamie Pickett and Denis Tiuliulin has also been taken off the card. The middleweight bout is now being targeted for UFC’s September 10th card, per Nolan King of MMA Junkie.
Tiuliulin was fighting to come back from an unsuccessful UFC debut. He was submitted in his first fight for the promotion, getting stopped by Aliaskhab Khizriev in March.
Pickett is also coming off a loss, as he suffered a darce choke loss to Kyle Daukaus earlier this year.
UFC’s July 9th show has a total of 10 fights set for it currently. A fight between lightweights Rafael Fiziev and Rafael dos Anjos is currently set to headline the event.
Felice Herrig Signs With Bare-Knuckle Boxing Promotion Following MMA Retirement
Felice Herrig has retired from MMA, but her career as a combat sports fighter has yet to come to a close.
News broke Tuesday that Herrig signed a contract with bare-knuckle boxing promotion BKFC. This news comes only weeks after she announced her retirement from MMA.
Herrig, 37, fought in MMA from 2009 to 2022, attaining 14 wins through 24 pro appearances in that time. She first joined the UFC roster in 2014, and at one point went on a run of four consecutive wins.
Herrig announced her retirement from the sport in June after losing in a rematch to Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The loss, which came via second-round rear naked choke, was Herrig’s fourth consecutive defeat in the sport.
The list of former UFC fighters turned BKFC competitors continues to grow. John Dodson, Ben Rothwell, Mike Perry and Chad Mendes have all inked contracts with them over the past year.
The exact date for Herrig’s BKFC debut is not known at the moment.
Shanna Young vs. Miranda Maverick Booked For UFC 278
Riding the momentum of a recent successful return to flyweight, Shanna Young will face Miranda Maverick at UFC’s August 20th pay-per-view event. The upcoming matchup was confirmed last week by Nolan King of MMA Junkie.
The fight is joining UFC 278, which is expected to take place at the Vivint Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
Young scored a finish win earlier this year, stopping Gina Mazany in the second round of a bout. While Young had previously appeared as a flyweight in her career, this win marked the first time that she had competed in UFC’s 125-pound division.
Following up on that success, Young will be sticking with the flyweight limit for her next booking.
Young’s two previous UFC fights both resulted in losses.
Maverick also snapped a two-fight skid in her last appearance. She earned a second-round submission victory over Sabina Mazo in March, catching her with a rear naked choke for a win.
Brogan Walker Secures ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ Grand Final Spot With Win Over Laura Gallardo
Brogan Walker secured a spot in the grand finals on Season 30 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” defeating Laura Gallardo on this week’s episode of the show.
Walker utilized an overtime round to get the win on the episode that aired Tuesday, going three rounds in total against Gallardo for a unanimous decision win.
Walker led herself to a victory through her sharp striking skills throughout the fight. She was the more active striker in all of the rounds and connected with the cleaner blows.
Gallardo clinched with Walker numerous times during the fight, although she was never able to do much with these positions. On the other hand, Walker often capitalized on these positions by landing knees to the body of Gallardo.
Walker now has two wins under her belt for this season, but the biggest one has yet to come. Walker’s last opponent on the show will be confirmed on the July 19th season finale of “TUF.”
Her first win of the season, a decision victory against Hannah Guy, aired last month.
Gallardo entered the season as a short-notice fighter, stepping in to replace Chantel Coates. She won her quarter-final bout against Kathryn Paprocki during an episode of the show that aired in May.
The second grand final spot for the heavyweight bracket will be confirmed on next week’s episode, as Mohammed Usman and Eduardo Perez will face off. The winner will go on to fight Zac Pauga in the finals at a later date.
