Former UFC, Bellator Fighter Paul Redmond Announces Retirement
23-fight MMA veteran Paul Redmond has decided to call it a career.
Redmond, 35, announced Tuesday via social media that he has retired from MMA.
“I think now is a good a time as ever to step away from MMA,” said Redmond in an Instagram post. “25 pro fights, a full amateur career, but the injuries are starting to mount up every fight camp.”
Redmond’s MMA career included appearances in the UFC, Bellator, KSW and Cage Warriors. He is retiring with a pro record of 15 wins and eight losses.
Redmond’s early years were in part built by Cage Warriors, where he attained seven wins through eight appearances from 2012 to 2014.
Redmond had a two-fight UFC run in 2015, getting cut by the promotion after losing in both appearances.
His last fight was a submission loss to Georgi Karakhanyan on a Bellator card in early 2020.
UFC Parts Ways With Flyweight Liana Jojua
UFC has made the call to part ways with Liana Jojua after a four-fight run with them. News of Jojua’s departure from the promotion was confirmed by Guilherme Cruz and Damon Martin of MMA Fighting on Thursday.
Jojua’s stint resulted in an unsuccessful one win and three losses.
She made her UFC debut in 2019, losing to Sarah Moras at UFC 242.
Jojua picked up her sole UFC win in her next appearance, securing a first-round armbar win over Diana Belbita in July 2020.
Jojua’s exit from the promotion comes after two consecutive losses. Her most recent defeat was just last weekend, where she dropped a unanimous decision to Cortney Casey.
Jojua also missed weight for that fight, coming in two-and-a-half pounds over the non-championship limit at flyweight.
Azamat Murzakanov To Face Philipe Lins At December 4th UFC Event
Azamat Murzakanov’s UFC debut is set once again. The undefeated light heavyweight is expected to meet Philipe Lins at the promotion’s December 4th event, per a report from VestnikMMA.
Murzakanov secured a UFC contract in late August, scoring a first-round stoppage win over Matheus Sheffel on the TV show “Dana White’s Contender Series.”
He was originally set to make his UFC debut in November against Marcin Prachnio, but that fight was later scrapped.
Lins will be fighting for his first UFC win. The 2019 PFL Heavyweight Champion has lost two bouts since joining the promotion, having dropped fights against Andrei Arlovski and Tanner Boser.
Lins has struggled to find a bout since 2020, as five bouts have reportedly fallen through since November 2020.
