12/6/23: Jamahal Hill Accused of Striking, 'Dazing' Brother During Dispute
Details regarding Jamahal Hill's recent arrest lead the MMA headlines for Wednesday
Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Knockdown Daily. Today’s issue includes two stories, plus a whole lot of notes on recent news. Let’s start.
Jamahal Hill Accused Of Striking, ‘Dazing’ Brother During Dispute
Details recently emerged regarding the arrest of former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jamahal Hill.
Last week, news broke that Hill, 32, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor aggravated domestic violence after an alleged incident with his brother. At the time, details were scarce about the situation: Hill had yet to comment on it, and little was released by authorities.
The Kentwood Police Department from Kentwood, Michigan, USA has recently provided their report for the arrest to MMA Fighting, and Hill has publicly commented on the incident as well.
The report states that Hill allegedly assaulted his brother on the night of November 27th following an argument.
The police department’s report claims that a dispute started over an agreement that Hill’s house would be cleaned by his brother and his wife for $300. The report mentions that the argument started going into “other family matters” as well. Hill’s brother at one point allegedly argued about Hill “being disrespectful to women and abandoning his own daughter.” This argument escalated until Hill allegedly struck his brother in the face, making him fall to the ground.
Hill’s brother allegedly stood up and his wife got between the two, although Hill “reached around” her to strike his brother in the face once again. This caused him to fall once more and feel “dazed.” An officer also mentioned that Hill’s brother had a tooth knocked out and suffered “significant swelling.”
The accusations were corroborated by a witness, who said that Hill’s three kids were also present when the alleged altercation took place.
Hill confirmed the arrest in a recent Youtube video but decided to make little comment about it for the time being.
“At this time, that is an open case,” Hill said via Youtube. “I’ve been advised not to speak on it. Which, I know not to speak on it. I just can’t wait for the truth to be told in court and I wait for that day and I look forward to that day.”
Sumudaerji Given Tim Elliott on Short Notice For Saturday’s UFC Card
A last-minute change has been made to Saturday’s UFC “Fight Night” card from Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Sumudaerji is no longer expected to face Allan Nascimento, but instead will now go up against Tim Elliott in a flyweight contest. The new matchup was confirmed this week by Patrick McCorry.
Elliott is taking this short-notice bout in an attempt to bounce back from a submission loss he took in October against Muhammad Mokaev.
This weekend is a big one for Elliott, as he will be making his 20th career appearance in a UFC cage. He made his UFC debut back in 2012 but departed the roster three years later after suffering a trio of losses. He rejoined the flyweight division in 2016 and has been an active member of it ever since.
Sumudaerji will also be trying to get back to his winning ways, as his last appearance was a submission loss to Matt Schnell more than a year ago.
Nascimento was looking for his third consecutive win. He has recently picked up wins over Jake Hadley and Carlos Hernandez. It is not known at the moment why he withdrew from the card, or how long it will be before he can get booked for a new fight.
Notes On: UFC, ONE Championship, KSW & Cage Warriors
Giga Chikadze (15-3) has withdrawn from a featherweight fight against Josh Emmett (18-4) on UFC’s December 16th card due to a torn groin. News of the canceled bout was first reported by Damon Martin of MMA Fighting. It’s not known at the moment if Emmett, a former interim title challenger, will get a new opponent for later this month.
Riding a three-fight winning streak, William Gomis (13-2) will face Melsik Baghdasaryan (8-2) at UFC’s February 3rd show, per L'apogée MMA. Gomis’ last win saw him stop Yanis Gehmmouri in the third round with a body kick. Baghadasaryan bounced back from his sole UFC loss in July with a win over Tucker Lutz.
Undefeated Hyder Amil (8-0) will make his UFC debut on February 10th against Shayilan Nuerdanbieke (39-11), as announced by his management team this week. Amil earned a UFC contract in August with a win over Emrah Sonmez on “Dana White’s Contender Series.” Before then, he had wins in LFA and Bellator. Nuerdanbieke had a three-fight winning streak broken in his last fight, getting stopped by Steve Garcia.
Six-foot-seven Robelis Despaigne (4-0) was signed to a UFC contract last weekend after scoring a four-second knockout against Miles Banks (1-1) at Fury FC 84 in Texas. MMA Fighting’s Alexander K. Lee has the story.
Three MMA bouts have been announced as part of ONE Championship’s “ONE Friday Fights 44” event from the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Returning just over a month after his last victory, Fritz Aldin Biagtan (6-1) will face promotional newcomer Babar Ali (6-2). Biagtan won his last ONE appearance with a 73-second finish.
In a clash between two undefeated featherweights, Carlo Bumina-ang (3-0) and Ilyas Dursin (3-0) will meet. Bumina-ang has picked up two previous victories in ONE.
Looking for his third consecutive win as an MMA fighter, Milad Huseyini (2-0) will meet Leandro Gomes (4-1). This fight was first booked for a November ONE Championship card, but didn’t happen in that instance.
Anthony Orozco (1-0) has been given a new opponent, as original foe Blake Perry (2-1) has withdrawn from the matchup for Cage Warriors 165 on December 15th from San Diego, California, USA. He is now expected to face Benny Orozco (2-0) (presumably not related).
Two more fights have joined KSW 90, which will take place on January 20th in Warsaw, Poland.
After losing his KSW debut in July to Sebastian Przybysz, Islam Djabrailov (9-5) will go up against MMA GP Bantamweight Champion Alfan Rocher-Labes (10-2).
Searching for his third consecutive win in KSW, Werlleson Martins (18-5) will face bantamweight Oleksii Polischuck (11-4). Polischuck picked up his first KSW win in October, submitting Filip Macek with a triangle armbar.
